Beyond Entitlement
Published in Paperback by Free Press (March, 2001)
Average review score:

This Book Started a RevolutionMead's Beyond Entitlement broke the old politics of welfare, where the left cried for more money for welfare while the right barked for less. Mead shifted the argument to the question of citizen obligation, as in, "what ought be expected of those who receive welfare?" Asking this question broke the political gridlock and opened the doors for welfare reform. His view can be called big government conservatism, which holds that the able-bodied must work but insists that government must provide support (like day care) to enable welfare recipients to hold work.

Beyond Technique: Psychotherapy for the 21st Century
Published in Hardcover by Jason Aronson (February, 1996)
Average review score:

A Work in EmpathyThis book should be required reading for anyone who professes to conduct psychotherapy. LeShan challenges the individual therapist to grow and transcend conventional knowledge. In that way, therapists can empathically connect with the people they hope to help. Thought provoking and full of wisdom, LeShan presents his tome with the utmost humility. A very moving book! This book is best summed up by William Osler's edict, "It is more important to know what sort of patient has the disease than what sort of disease the patient has" (p. 9).

Beyond the Shadow
Published in Paperback by Boyd Pub Co (28 December, 1999)

Great Book!I found this to be a wonderfull and heart warming story, of a strong willed woman and her struggle with an undiagnoised illness. Hearing her words gives the reader strength and determination to make it through any tough situation. Her straight forword approach to writting makes it a simple read and truly makes one feel as if you are merely having a conversation with the author. Hearing her story and feeling her pain through her words, I could not put this book down. I ended up finsihing the book in one day because I could not wait to see how everything turned out. I reccomend this book 100% to anyone out there who has stuggled with any sort of problem medical or not. This book truly brings forth the power of human will and determination to overcome any obstactle no matter what the circumstances.

Beyond Winning: Sports and Games All Kids Want to Play
Published in Paperback by Fearon Teacher AIDS (December, 1990)
Average review score:

Great Resource for Teachers, Leaders/Counselors and ParentsThis small, but useful book provides great ideas for non-competitive games that emphasize cooperation and team work. I found the games, particularly circle kickball, to be an excellent game for a birthday party with a co-ed group. The book is clear and concise and should be utilized by teachers, camp counselors, scout leaders and parents. An excellent reference, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

The Big Book of Italian American Culture
Published in Paperback by Sanniti Publications (1996)
Average review score:

A joy to read and a treasure to own!It is a compendium, in soft-cover magazine/textbook style, of stories about the lives of Italian immigrants in America. The people are so different and the stories vary so much one from the other that it defies anything you have ever heard about Italian stereotypes. If the immigrants could be classified at all it would be that they all worked tirelessly in their pursuits. Not all achieved success as we know it. Take the story about "the Human Mole" , Baldasare Forestiere who bought a large plot of land and, to the embarrassment of his family, spent forty years creating a ten-acre subterranean maze of curving passageways, rooms, courtyards, patios and grottos beneath the surface of his property. There is a description of life on a mushroom farm; a beautiful poem about a summer kitchen in the middle of a garden in Brooklyn; a housewife who took in single Italian boarders and treated them like family. Then there are the famous Italians, Giannini, Mario Lanza, Enrico Caruso and the infamous Lucky Luciano, Al Capone etc. I highly recommend this book it is filled with interesting information, a great reference book, heart-warming and entertaining. This book is a joy to read and a treasure to own.

Billy Durant: Creator of General Motors,
Published in Hardcover by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (1984)
Average review score:

Billy DurantThis is another good book on my hero Mr. William C. Durant the creator of GM. Mr. Durant defiantly affected the early automobile history more than any other one man ever. He was the worlds largest cart maker back in Flint Mi. & went on to save Buick from certain bankruptcy. Also creating GM with Buick as the cornerstone car & then adding Olds, Cadillac & Oakland (the forerunner to Pontiac) & many others that didn't pan out. He also started Chevrolet with his famous Buick race car driver Louis Chevrolet. Some other good reads are The Dream Maker 1979 by Bernard Weisberger and The Deal Maker by Axel Madsen 1999. Also some other really interesting info is the Durant website. Sincerely Lance Haynes President Durant Motors Automobile Club

Black Berry, Sweet Juice: On Being Black and White in Canada
Published in Hardcover by HarperFlamingo Canada (September, 2001)
Average review score:

Revolutionary thinkingBlack Berry, Sweet Juice is "on being black and white in Canada"
I went into this book thinking it would be the same old race diatribes that I've been prone to my entire life. There should be equality between races, there is one race: human, etc. These are all things I believe, but are also fairly obvious, so everytime I read anything about race, I get frustrated by the same things being reitterated.
Lawrence Hill made me think of things that I hav never thought about before. He's well research, incredibly unbiased, recognizes that race IS an issue and that in order to abolish racism Canada must recognize that!
Insightful, well written, and well researched. A must for anyone, and a most definate must for any mixed race men and women.

Blood on Their Hands
Published in Hardcover by Prime Crime (01 July, 2003)
Average review score:

Dynamite anthologyThis anthology consists of nineteen well-written new stories that focus, for the most part, on how everyday people react when pushed over the edge. The contributions are fun to follow as each story adheres to the premise though the scenarios differ between the contributions. This in turn leads to the reader in several cases placing themselves in the precarious situations in order to ponder how they would have acted. The authors are some of the leaders of the mystery/suspense genre and obviously everyone took the tasking seriously to the benefit of the audience. The trouble with this book is that the tales are so good this reviewer broke a personal commandment of reading no more than three shorts a day (to fully savor a collection), but this time finished BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS in one sitting as will most readers.

Bloody Dawn
Published in Paperback by Kent State Univ Pr (November, 1992)
Average review score:

Definitive history of the Lawrence MassacreThe best account of the infamous Lawrence, Kansas massacre during the Civil War. Goodrich uses meticulous detail and vivid writing to deliver a fascinating, often gruesome depiction of Quantrill's raid. The casual reader will find "Bloody Dawn" riveting; the historian will discover a treasure trove in the copious footnotes and bibliography. A must for anyone interested in the seamy underbelly of the "bleeding Kansas" era.

The Fun Way to Learn to Read!!!!This book is great way for parents and children to work together
at learning to read. My daughter is going into the first grade in the fall and is actively learning to read. This was great practice for what she has learned with phonics. Plus it was great fun for both of us.
Proper sentence construction and reading comprehension are also intertwined in this book.
The stickers are fun way to enhance the learning experience.
This book goes along with the Blue's Clues ABC's episode;but, you do not need it to thoroughly enjoy this book.
I would love to find other books along the same idea to further enhance my daughter's learning experience.
